I wrote down the font on paper (first row). Then the second row is the first attempt to redesign the font.

There are five new attempts in the first row from the left. And then the second row is an evolution of the previous row.

Evolution

I felt that the indentation on the font did not match the shape of the racket (elliptical) and the parabola created every time the badminton is struck.

Therefore, the appearance is relatively flat and a point of curvature is produced at the corners of the font.

The font structure comes from two main rectangles (one thick and one thin). Then combine them and curve each corner of their font. (Smaller corners are smaller arcs). The overall look will not be as stiff as the original font.

After finished the fonts design is to adjust the bearing of the letters.  I doesn't  have any pictures to show because I had done it in fontlab at school and forgot to screenshot the process.

Here's the link to download the font.

Reflection

Experience

Starting to figure out the idea to design the font is more challenge for me but when I was thinking about what to use as design inspiration, my eyes moved to the font on my badminton bag so I was inspired to start designing fonts. Finally use the grid on the badminton racket as the main direction. The idea to use a badminton racket grid pattern came about during multiple brainstorming sessions to create a unique sports-themed font. Initially, this challenge challenged me and I couldn't wait to start the creative process.

Observation
As the project unfolded, the grid structure became the backbone of the typeface, reflecting the intricate patterns on the strings of a badminton racket. The typography takes on a rhythmic quality, with characters aligned at precise intersections of the grid. This approach not only adds a visually interesting element but also creates a sense of movement and unity within the typeface.

Finding
A noteworthy finding is the harmonious balance achieved between form and function. While the typeface retains readability, the grid-inspired design injects dynamic energy, recalling the fast-paced nature of badminton. This fusion of aesthetics and functionality results in a typeface that captures the essence of the sport without compromising its primary purpose of conveying a written message.
