Part 1: Infographic Poster

Infographic poster reference

Fig 1
Infographic poster reference

I choose this infographic poster as my reference to redesign because of its lots of text even though it has enough information about social media and mental health. Since the main target group for my redesign of this poster is young people, it is necessary to simplify the entire information poster and highlight the important information.

Below is the important information that appeared in the poster.

Sketches

Fig 5
Sketch 1

This is the first sketch that I made but from the feedback of Mr. Shamsul, the layout is not organized and didn't see the design principal such as contrast in the sketch. Mr. Shamsul suggested me to find some good references and decided who is the target audience before doing the sketch.

After feedback

Sketch 2

For the sketch, I'm tried to separate the information to 3 sections which are the chart bar, the negative impact and the tips to reduce the impact. On the top is the title and 1/3 of left is the chart bar and the right is the main information which are the negative impact and the tips to reduce the impact.

Fig 7
Sketch 3

For the second sketch, I tried to make the poster like an information map. The title still put on the top but it's more on the left top and I made a chat box as its background. Then the top right is the chart bar. and the negative impact at the middle because it is the main content and I made it into flow chart so that the audience can follow it till the bottom and the bottom is the method to reduce the negative impact.

Fig 8
Sketch 4

The design is divided into two sections, separated by a large smartphone in the center. On the left side, labeled "Overuse," there are icons representing individuals experiencing the negative effects of excessive social media use. This section highlights harmful behaviors or consequences associated with overuse. On the right side, labeled "Healthy Use," similar user icons depict individuals practicing responsible social media habits, emphasizing its positive impact when used mindfully.

The smartphone in the middle serves as a visual divider, symbolizing the role of social media as a tool that can lead to both negative and positive outcomes depending on how it is used.

Sketch 5

There has a smartphone in the left side and the title will inside the smartphone. Then, all the information will put at the right side. For the top is a box highlights key facts. Below, a list of negative effects, such as addiction and mental health issues, is shown. At the bottom right, a lightbulb labeled "Tips" suggests ways to use social media in a healthier way.

Final Outcome

I choose 2 of 4 sketches to illustrate which are the sketch 5 and sketch 2.

Redesign infographic poster 1

For the font style, I used Sigmar Regular for the title. IMPACT for the subtitle and LATO REGULAR AND BOLD for the text. The color palette I used for outcome 1 is blue and yellow as primary color and skin and red as secondary color.

Redesign infographic poster 2

The font style used for outcome 2 as same as outcome 1. The color that used for outcome 2 is green and yellow as primary color.

Part 2:  Minimal animated infographic

After finished the infographic poster, we need to make some static animation for the infographic poster.

Fig 13
Screenshot of Adobe Illustrator

I started to find that what the element can be make for static animation. After my attempts and considerations, I decided to choose the RIGHT HAND, the LIGHT of bulb, TAGLINE and RED NOTIFICATION and I separated them to different layer in AI so I can easy to do the animation in AE.

Fig 14
Screenshot in After Effect

For the right hand animation, I had it move slowly up and down with some side-to-side tilting to make the hand look animated. Then for the red dot which is the notification of chat, I made it flashing every half second, so it looks like the user received a message.

For the bulb, I made its light can blink and a little of glow effect. Then the tagline, I made it appears after the hand animated.

Below is the demo loop animation.

Reflection

Redesigning the infographic poster was a great opportunity to apply design principles and improve visual clarity. Based on feedback, I focused on better layout, typography, and color balance to make the information more engaging and easy to read. One key challenge was organizing the content effectively. Initially, the design felt cluttered, so I adjusted the spacing and hierarchy to guide the viewer’s eye smoothly. I also experimented with different visual elements, such as icons and contrast, to highlight important points. This process helped me understand how small design changes can make a big difference in communication. If I had more time, I would refine it further by testing different styles to see which works best.

Working on this animated infographic poster was a valuable learning experience. I realized how animation can make information more engaging compared to static visuals. One challenge I faced was timing the animations correctly—too fast, and the message gets lost; too slow, and it feels dull. Adjusting keyframes and easing helped create a smooth flow. I also learned how motion can highlight key points effectively. Initially, some transitions felt abrupt, but refining them made the animation more natural and easy to follow. If I had more time, I would experiment with more interactive elements to enhance engagement. Overall, this project improved my skills in After Effects, motion design, and visual storytelling. Overall, this project strengthened my design thinking and problem-solving skills.
