Progression

Week 1

Ms. Chui Yin started briefing the tasks that we need to do in this semester and introduced us the other 2 supervisors who will conduct us.

After that, we started to form a group of four. Then we started to brainstorm about what topic we wanted to do as final project.

We use FigJam as our working board and list up the ideas.

Week 2

Once we brainstorming and listed up our ideas, we started to think about which are our top 3 ideas. After the group discussion and consulted with Mr. Razif, we finally decided to make an application about food tracking.

Final Idea

Feedback from Mr. Razif:
-The idea is good but maybe can add or find more features.

After we decided on the final option, we discussed our project name and group name in our first meeting.

Then we started to do our task 1, which are the problem statement, objectives & aims and HMW Statement.

Fig 4
Problem Statement, Objectives & aims and HMW Statement.

Each of us in the group gave some suggestions and ideas, then we finalize them with the content that relevance to our project.

Week 3

This week, we consulted with Mr.  Razif that we had done last week.

Feedback:

  • How might we statement should be general and cannot include the solution.
  • make a summary of the existing application comparison before into the next step.

We assigned the work about doing the comparison of the existing applications. We separated the application about food app to 3 section which are barcode scanning application, recipe application and tracker application.

My part is to do the research and analysis the information about recipe application.

Comparison of the existing application

After we had done the analysis, we made a summary for each different applications. Then we changed and refined our HMW Statement through the feedback that Mr. Razif said.

We also made our project timeline in this week.

Week 4

This week, we doing contextual research about food so that we can more understand about our project.
We separate the content to 4 section which are scanning, type of diet, canned food and perishable food.
My part is canned food. There have lots of information about canned food such as how to preservation and types of method for preservation.

Contextual Research

We also started to do the user persona and user journey map. Before creating the user persona. We need to know what are our target users and what do they want for the application.

The first thing we need to do is listed up the interview questions that we want to ask the interviewee. Each of us gave lots of questions.

Fig 8
Rough interview questions

Then we finalize the interview questions and conducted the interview.

Fig 9
Interview questions

We separate the questions to 6 sections. The first one is the demographic and life style. Second is the personal food management & Expiry habits. For the third is the Challenges and pain point. The forth is Expectation for a food expiry tracker app which we want to do right now. Fifth is Adoption & Usability and the last one is the awareness & motivation.

Each questions included everything that we want to know between target users and application. Each of us in group had conducted 3 interview with interviewee.

Interview responses:

Data analysis and summary

In order to make the collected data more complete, we also conducted quantitative research so we had done the qualitative and quantitative research. The survey questions are as same as interview questions but we made a little changes.

Fig 11
Data collected and summary of each section

For the online survey, we had collected 87 responses. For the final insight, we got that most respondents, primarily students and families, cook regularly without a consistent meal planning routine, leading to food waste from forgotten expiry dates and duplicate purchases.

They overwhelmingly favor an easy-to-use food management app that automates expiry tracking with barcode scanning, delivers timely notifications and recipe suggestions based on expiring ingredients, and integrates with grocery lists and meal planning. Users are also open to a premium model if advanced features are included.

User persona

After we had analysis the data we collected, we started to create the user persona. The user persona is based on the data we collected.

We had done 3 user persona which are housewife, students and professional worker.

User Journey Map

After we had done the user persona, we started to make the user journey map based on the user persona.

Card Sorting

Below are the results of the card sorting. We listed the 5 features of the app, and then we also listed cards such as emergency and scanning so that respondents can place the cards in the functional areas they think.

We also added a question to the card sort to get a better understanding of what features respondents would most want when they actually use the app.

After collecting the responses, we began to arrange the respondents' answers.

Feedback

After the presentation, we got some feedback and suggestions. Dr. Wong suggested us consider about the human habits and also the smart fridges in today era.

Based on the feedback, we do research about smart fridges and Iot sensors and adjust SWOT analysis.

SWOT analysis

After finished the contextual research and SWOT analysis, we started to adjust the site map and user flow. Before that, we readjust the card sorting.
